About

Joseph Iseri is a PhD student in the East Asian Languages and Literatures Department at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is currently a Foreign Visiting Researcher at the University of Osaka during his tenure as a Crown Prince Akihito Scholarship fellow.

A local Kāneʻohe boy, Joseph’s interest in Japanese began with an interest in his family’s nikkei roots. Since 2019, he has taught as a one-on-one language tutor for K-8 and as a GA instructor of Japanese language and content courses at the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa.

His current projects address literacy socialization, both for L1 Japanese children and L2 adult learners of Japanese.
